baby on the way!

Long time no blog! It's been almost a whole year since I have written a blog post, so I decided it was about time seeing as so much has happened. Probably the most exciting this to happen to Kapena and I is our little one that it on the way. We are expecting a new addition to our family on October 6th. Words can not describe all the excitement!

Initially we planned on waiting until at least a year to start trying for a baby, but in October we started to really want a baby. After many many long talks we decided it would be best to wait until after the first of the year to start trying. I did a lot of research and found out that it usually takes about 4 months to get pregnant. I really did not want to wait that long at all, but I just figured this would be the case. So after the first of the year we got busy ;) and after some careful scheduling, we endured the 2 week wait, which is the time it takes for a test to show if you are pregnant or not. Let me tell you that was the longest 2 weeks of my life. I had planned on waiting exactly 2 weeks to test, but my patient self could not wait that long. We went and got a few tests and made sure to get the ones that tell you "5 days sooner". Every morning for the next 5 days, Kapena and I would get up early and I would take a test. After many negative tests, desperate prayers, and a few tears, we figured it didn't happen this month, and we would just need to try again next month. Then on the expected date of Aunt Flo's arrival I decided I would just take another test just because, so I didn't bother to wake Kapena up. I left the test on the counter and went ahead getting ready for work. Expecting another negative result I went into the bathroom to look at the test, and there were TWO LINES! Immediately I picked up the test and busted into our bedroom screaming/sobbing/laughing to Kapena that there was two lines! The poor guy had just woken up and it took him a few seconds to translate what I was saying. He rubbed his eyes trying so hard to see the test but just kept saying "I can't see it! My eyes are blurry!". Finally his eyes focused and he saw the second line. Then came the water works, hugs and kisses. And just like that, we were pregnant. :)

I can not tell you how blessed I feel that I was able to get pregnant so quickly. I will never take that for granted after hearing so many heartbreaking stories of months and years of infertility. I guess our little angel is just as excited to meet us as we are to meet them.

What we were most excited for was to tell our families, they wanted a grandbaby and niece/nephew so badly. After months of "are you pregnant YET?" we couldn't wait to finally say "YES!". We found out on Monday so that meant we had to wait almost a whole week to tell everyone that Sunday, and that was not easy. We had a very specific plan to tell everyone the news.

Earlier in the week Kapena called both of our parents and told them that he was planning a surprise for me and he needed their help. He said he was going to take me on a cruise (which everyone knows I have been dying to do) for a combined Valentines Day/birthday/anniversary gift and he wanted to surprise me in front of everyone so they needed to gather both families for a family dinner. The week went on and everyone thought they were going to pull a fast one on me, but little did they know the surprise was for them! Sunday FINALLY came and it was time to tell the news. During family home evening after Sunday dinner Kapena said he had a surprise for me and brought out a big box to me. I acted like I had no idea what was going on and began to open the present. I pulled out a beach towel, aloe vera, and a picture of a cruise ship and acted like I was starting to catch on as everyone was dying for me to figure it out. The last thing I pulled out was a piece of paper that I read. I said "oh my gosh you guys aren't going to believe this!" which sort of confused everyone. Then I turned the paper around which read "WE"RE PREGNANT!" and everyone started screaming and crying and hugging. It could not have gone more perfectly! And because we wanted to catch it on camera, Kapena's dad was video taping what he thought was a surprise for me.

I am so happy that we were able to start the pregnancy off in such a fun way. Obviously I have a lot to catch the blog up on in our lives and those posts are to follow.

one month down, eternity to go.

Yesterday marked 1 month since our wedding day, by far the best month of my life. I'm sure i'll say that every month though. I love this new crazy life that we have together. Some of my favorites:

Never having to say goodnight and driving all the way home.
Good morning kisses every day, neither of us caring about the others pungent morning breath.
Coming home to my exhausted husband taking a nap and having him hold his arms out to hold me and whispering "i missed you honey" into my ear.
Grocery shopping together, I don't know why but it's my favorite.
Cuddles, all day everyday.
Cradling my head in his lap combing through my hair.
How I can randomly look over and find him looking at me with love in his eyes.
He is my rock, I never feel scared, stressed, worried or anything bad when he holds me.
He has never yelled at me, I can't think of a time. He is the most gentle man I have ever met.
The flirty eyes we give each other across the gym.
The amount of times he says thank you.
Talking about life so far and what is to come.
Hugs from behind and a kiss on the neck while I'm cooking dinner.
Those days when he just needs to be babied.
How me makes me laugh when I am trying to be stubborn and pout.
Learning, I have learned so much about myself.

I love him. I love how incredibly happy we are, and we only fall more in love every single day. And he never fails to let me know that. I can't wait to see what adventures are to come. I know that with him by my side I will have a lifetime of love and happiness, no matter where this crazy life takes us.

back to thursday survey.

1.) Mood:
Tired, bored, unproductive. There has been absolutely nothing for me to do today at work which makes me feel like a loser.

2.) Have any fun weekend plans?
Today is my father in laws birthday, and my little sister has a softball game and I love going to those and embarrassing her with my yelling. Friday and saturday are going to be pretty chill, maybe do a couple beauty blog posts?? (I need suggestions!) Sunday we are going up to a condo in Midway with both of our families to celebrate dad's birthday!!

3.) What is the closest object to you that is pink?
My iphone case, hot pink mark jacobs.

4.) Current nail polish:
Nothing, letting my nails breathe today.

5.) If you could snap your fingers and be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
One of those really exotic, tropical beaches where the water is turquoise and the sand is white with just me and my husband.  Just the thought of it makes me relax a bit.

6.) Current outfit:
Black jeans, denim button up shirt, nude suede oxfords, messy casual bun, and my turquoise ring and silver studded bracelet.

7.) What is the last movie you saw in theaters?
Last weekend we took Kapena's little brother and sister to see The Avengers to celebrate Kaulana's 16th birthday. I really like it!

8.) If you could only be one age for the rest of your life, which would you choose, and why?
I feel like 23 is going to be my prime age, still young, but matured and settled. Right now is sort of frantic in a way, deciding where our lives are going to go. I think I would love to be settled and secure.

9.) When is the last time you played on a swing set?
Oh geez, I can't even remember. I'll have to do that this summer.

10.) Weekly goals:
Help Kapena find a job, cook a yummy healthy dinner every night (which I have kept up with), and keep the house clean.

Feel free to steal this survey and do it on your blog!! Have a great weekend everybody :)

makeup dupes. drugstore vs. high end.

I don't know about you but when I go to the drugstore looking for makeup, I used to have no idea what I was doing. A couple years ago I started developing a hobby for makeup. After all the research and trials, I know a lot of quality items that you can find at any local store. I'm hoping by posting this that someone will benefit and now waste their money on crappy products. Because makeup is a hobby of mine I have invested in high end products as well, and I have come to find that there are many drugstore dupes out there, which is what this post is about.

Lets start out with foundation. I rotate between 2 different foundations, one is from the drugstore and the other is high end. My high end foundation is Chanel Vita Lumier Aqua. I love this because it doesn't feel like you are wearing heavy makeup, but gives you incredible coverage. Because it is from Chanel it is very pricey at about $50.

The only drugstore foundation that I have found that I love is Revlon's Colorstay. It is a pretty heavy coverage foundation so if you don't like a semi-heavy foundation I would not recommend this. I, however do not mind at all and love the flawless coverage. The Revlon alternative gives the same affect for a fraction of the cost at about $9.

Let's move on to bronzer. I feel like bronzer is important to wear because your face should be multi-dimensional, and not one color. You can use it by dusting along your cheeks and forehead or a more drastic look by contouring the cheek bones. A great high end bronzer that I own is Nars "laguna". Its a perfect, non-orange color with just a hint of shimmer. This product runs for about $26. I have found the most amazing dupe for literally about $3.  I actually like the drugstore version better, and that is NYC "sunny" bronzer. This one is actually matte which I prefer.

Now for blush, these 2 products are not alike in color, but are both perfect for everyday wear. My high end product is Nars "gaiety", a gorgeous hot pink. In the packaging it looks extreamlely bright, but when you put it on it gives you the perfect flush. A wonderful drugstore blush that serves the same purpose would be Elf "candid coral", a warm shimmery peach. You can get any Elf products at target and it is only $3.

Next is eye shadows. One color every girl should have is a good taupe color because it goes with every eye color. It is such a simple color to simply sweep over the lid and go. My high end shadow is Mac's "satin taupe". This is a beautifully pigmented purple toned taupe. This sells for $15. The drugstore dupe for this eye shadow is Covergirl "tapestry taupe". It is really pigmented just like the Mac one but have more of a golden tone to it, but just as beautiful. I believe Covergirl eye shadows just for about $4 each.

It's always a good idea to have a good palette to take with you on the go. The high end one that I own and LOVE is the Urban Decay naked palette. It includes 12 eye shadows ranging from a highlighters to crease colors to dark colors to line your eyes. The palette is about $48 but has proved me to be well worth it. A good dupe is a Revlon quad in "addictive". It contains a matte highlight, a shimmery all over the lid color, a great taupe, and a matte dark brown. This would be great for anyone starting out with make up because it has all the essential colors. I can't remember how much it costs but no more that $8. In the picture I picked out a few of my favorites from the Naked palette to swatch.

Here is another case where I pick the drugstore option over the high end. Mascara. Everybody needs to own Covergirl lash blast if they like long, thick lashes. I love this mascara so much and always find myself repurchasing it. It sells for about $9. A very similar high end is Benefit's bad gal lash. I would say that this mascara gives you more volume rather than length, but is an awesome mascara none the less.

Personally I love wearing a nude lip everyday. My favorite high end nude lipstick is Mac's creme d'nude. It blanks out the bright pigmentation in your lips but without making you look like you are dead. Mac lipsticks run for about $15. A drugstore lipstick that is almost identical is Revlon's soft nude. They are a bit different in that the Mac one is a bit more pink toned and the revlon more brown toned. The Revlon lipstick can be bought for about $8.

Stay tuned for my next post which will be a tutorial on how to get an adorable vintage floral design on your nails.
